December 5-7th: Home for the Holidays in Downtown Elmira



Home for the Holidays in Downtown Elmira on December 5-7, 2014 - a collaborative effort from Elmira College, First Arena, the city of Elmira and Elmira Downtown. Home for the Holidays will feature Elmira Jackals hockey, Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey, downtown holiday festivities and the Elmira College men's and women's hockey teams in NCAA Division III action.

 Holiday Festival 12:00-7:00 pm 

Home for the Holiday outdoor events include: gift vendors; Live music performances, story-time  where volunteers will read holiday-themed stories to children who will also receive an activity book; Actors from Elmira Little Theatre will stroll through the market in Victorian costume handing out candy canes and adding a touch of charm; A Tree-lighting ceremony in Mark Twain Riverfront Park will be followed by a Community Sing-a-Long of best-loved Christmas carols. 


Street hockey games for all age groups will run all day long on Main Street.

Teams of three can enter to participate in segmented age levels ranging from 6 & under to an adult division.


Elmira College men's team will hit the ice at 3:00 p.m. against Wesleyan University followed by the tree lighting ceremony at 5:00 p.m. located at Mark Twain Riverfront Park. The Jackals will headline the night against the Toledo Walleye at First Arena with the puck drop at 7:05 p.m.

The weekend finale on Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. with an Elmira Jackals Youth Hockey game, then highlights the Elmira College women's team in an ECAC-West clash against SUNY Potsdam at 1:00 p.m. The weekend wraps up with the Jackals game at 4:05 p.m. versus the Wichita Thunder.

Both of the Elmira College games are free to the public. Tickets to the Jackals games begin as low as $5 and can be purchased online at jackalshockey.com, at the First Arena Box Office or by calling (607) 734-7825.  And Home for the Holidays Festivities Free and Open to Public
